Hand crafted by local artisans on the Nigeria-Benin west coast of Africa in the mid 20th century.
The pieces are made from local thorn wood and are very lightweight.
The set is the representation of the Yoruba and Dahomay tribes daily life. The pieces are hand carved so there is some differences between them.
One of the lighter 'bishops' is missing its cross but otherwise the set is in beautiful condition for its age. No box or board.
