19th century red and cream bone barleycorn chess pieces
Substantial, weighted red and cream barleycorn chess pieces. Barleycorn chess sets were very popular in the first half of the 19th century and are made from natural and cochineal stained bone. The barleycorn style chess pieces have broad, barrel bodied kings and queens with simple turned ring features. Some of the pieces screw together.
The pieces are generally in good condition however, as can be seen from the photos, a couple of the pieces have cracks and wear which are consistent with their age.
The pieces come in a wooden box. The king is 3.5"
