Beautiful hand carved chess pieces made from the South American tagua nut "vegetable ivory".
In the 19th and early 20th centuries, the material was popular for making buttons as well as playing dice, walking sticks and of course, chess pieces. The popularity of the tagua nut declined after World War II but has become popular again in recent years.

All pieces are in good condition with degrees of fading of the red pieces which is to be expected through age
