Highly collectible mid century "Modern Staunton" chess set, designed by Arthur Elliott for Anri

This modern take on Staunton has been designed by Arthur Elliott. The pieces are beautiful and in excellent condition for their age. There is some slight discolouration on a couple of the dark wood pieces. The bases are lightly weighted with a blue felt base stamped with the Anri logo.  They are a rather squat interpretation of the traditional Staunton chessmen and are crafted from kiln-dried white maple and black walnut.

The King is 6.5cm

The box shows signs of wear but is still sturdy and the hinges are solid.

Arthur Elliott was born in Philadephia in 1913 and died in Hollywood in 1983. Arthur was an animator for Disney Studios for six years before establishing a studio in Paris in 1949 and settling in Italy in 1957. He had many solo art exhibitions in Paris and Rome.
