Larger size antique folding 'Whittington Pattern' travel chess set c1890

Folding 'Whittington pattern' mahogany case with brass hinged wooden flaps on either side with boxwood and rosewood board. The pegged pieces are bone with one side being left natural and the other dyed a rich red.

'The Whittington' was retailed by Jaques between 1890 and 1940 and was extremely popular as a travelling set.

When open the set is 20" wide
Playing board is 9" square
When closed the set is 5" wide by 10" long

There is a chip to the base of one of the red bishops but otherwise this set is in very good condition for its age.
